Curtain call for Sydney Opera House’s longest serving employee

For 50 years Steve Tsoukalas has worked at the Sydney Opera house, but today it was time to say farewell.

It was an emotional final day for the 73-year-old as he walked up the front steps of the Opera House, after spending two thirds of his life working at Australia’s iconic building.

“I couldn’t sleep last night … to forget today,” Mr Tsoukalas said.

From the moment he sailed into Sydney Harbour in 1964 as a Greek immigrant and saw the Opera House, he knew he wanted to work there.
