Events and initiatives to mark the 50th tragic anniversary of the illegal Turkish invasion and on-going occupation of Cyprus

This year, Cypriots across the world are marking the 50th tragic anniversary of Turkey’s illegal invasion and occupation of Cyprus, as well as our commitment to a free and united Cyprus.

As we approach 20th July, we are reminded of the thousands of Cypriots who lost their lives, disappeared, or were made refugees in 1974 and our hope of ending this half-century of forced division.

The National Federation of Cypriots in the UK are coordinating a number of events and initiatives for the community and its friends to participate in as we approach the 50th tragic anniversary of the illegal Turkish invasion and on-going occupation of Cyprus. Join us and spread the word to friends and family

Ask your General Election candidates to sign our Cyprus Pledge Card – #HandsOffCyprus 2024!

Our annual #HandsoffCyprus e-campaign is back and this year our diaspora can make its voice heard in the General Election, by asking Parliamentary candidates across the UK to commit to the freedom and reunification of Cyprus.

Never before has our #HandsOffCyprus campaign focused on parliamentary candidates rather than sitting MPs, making this is a unique opportunity to inform candidates and to ensure that they fight for your vote and represent your views, especially in this tragic anniversary year.

Write to your prospective parliamentary candidates by filling out our brief form that generates an email for you to send to your local candidates – it takes less than 30 seconds! Find our form to create your automatic email at https://cypriotfederation.org.uk/mp

Ahead of the General Election please also ensure that you are registered to vote, engage with Candidates as they canvass in your area and actively support the candidate of your choice. The key deadlines for voting registrations and applications are:

  • Register to vote: Tues 18 June at 23.59
  • Applying for a Voter ID: Wed 26 June at 17:00
  • Applying for a postal vote: Wed 19 June at 17.00
  • Applying for a proxy vote: Wed 26 June at 17.00
