‘It’s offensive to us’: Belize rejects Australia-style migrant deal with the UK

London: The Foreign Minister of Belize has said the idea of accepting the UK’s unwanted migrants is “offensive” to the Carribean nation and will not happen.

British tabloid The Daily Express reported that the UK government was looking to strike more deals to send offshore migrants who cross the Channel from France by boat, with Paraguay, Peru and Belize all in line.

But Eamon Courtenay, Belize’s foreign and immigration minister told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age that it was out of the question.

“Belize is not in negotiations with the UK or anyone else to take migrants,” he said.
