Kabir had worked in procurement for the US embassy in Afghanistan and, in his spare time, was a popular musician, recording music in support of the Afghan military.
But by August 15, Kabul fell, and the next day, Kabir gathered his wife and their two children to make a desperate dash for the US-controlled airport.
“They were shooting from the back of us…telling us to stop. But we didn’t stop,” Kabir told us.
