This year wasn’t unprecedented. If anything, it set the precedent
Last month, The Guardian asked its readers to nominate a single word to describe how they felt about 2020.
This week, the poll results came in, with a resounding word of the year: “shit”.

Several of the runners-up are even less printable, and could broadly be considered synonyms, leaving no doubt as to the general sentiment on display.
But one popular exception to this trend would also be my nomination for the most overused word this year: “unprecedented”.
