Number of violent attacks rises each year at Melbourne’s mental health hospital

The mental health service that has treated some of Victoria’s most complex prisoners – from schoolgirl killer Sean Price to Bourke Street murderer James Gargasoulas – has had almost 900 violent outbreaks in five years, leaving multiple staff seriously injured and hospitalised.

Despite declaring “zero tolerance for any acts of aggression,” new data reveals Forensicare, which runs the high-security Thomas Embling Hospital, has recorded growing numbers of violent incidents every year, with safety standards falling below state benchmarks.
