PSOs made unlawful arrests due to legal loophole, police reveal
Protective services officers have made hundreds of arrests over outstanding warrants that were not permitted under law, Victoria Police has revealed.
The force on Thursday night confirmed it had received new legal advice revealing PSOs did not have the power to make arrests over warrants for failure to appear at court.

That’s despite making about 500 such arrests every year for the past eight years.
Police officers are now being temporarily deployed to railway stations across the state to ensure people wanted by the courts are still being arrested.
Police expect legislative changes will be made in the coming weeks to close the legal loophole…
