It happened quietly. If you didn’t read about it, you may not have known. But on June 19, 2019, Victoria became the first state in Australia to introduce voluntary assisted suicide.
It is striking how much euthanasia changes things. Life is the first freedom that we all enjoy. It is the fundamental right on which all other rights rest.
And as midnight came and went, we as a society passed over a brink that every generation of Australians before us had avoided.
